Open-source software is managed by the software developers that contribute to its development. Open-source software is software that is not owned by a company. Using the Chromium browser as a foundation, anyone building a complete web browser can save time by getting a large amount of pre-designed software. It's the core that does most of what is necessary for any web browser software, like opening and displaying web pages. The Chromium browser isn't designed to be a complete product for consumers or organizations. Google's Chrome, Microsoft's Edge, Opera, and Brave all use the same foundation of the Chromium browser and add to it to make their fully-featured products. The Chromium browser is an open-source (more on this a little later) product available for anyone to use free of charge. Both use the same underlying software, called the Chromium browser. ![]() Google's Chrome browser and Microsoft's Edge browser are closely related, but you may not know it.
